Issues with internal web-server

Pinegrow loads document through its internal web-server. Some conditions can cause the web-server not to be accessible to Pinegrow. Go through the following steps to troubleshoot the problem.

If you can’t open any page at all, including with File › New page, the most likely reason is that Pinegrow’s internal web server is not accessible.

Step 1 - Verify that the server is not accessible

Open Pinegrow and then in your browser navigate to http://127.0.0.1:40000

You should get a short 404 - Not found message if the web server is accessible. If that’s the case contact us about the issue.

If the browser displays a connection error continue to the step 2.

Step 2 - Are you using a supported OS?

Check that your computer meets the system requirements.

Step 3 - Check your firewall

Are you using a firewall? When you start Pinegrow the firewall usually asks if you want to allow its connections. You should allow them.

Check your firewall settings and list of blocked programs.

Are you using an anti-virus? Check if Pinegrow is being blocked or falsely identified as suspicious.

Restart of the computer might be needed to apply the changes made to firewall or anti-virus configuration.

Step 4 - Try changing the port

By default the internal web server runs on port 40000. The port can be changed in Support & Settings › Settings….

Try changing this value. Restart Pinegrow to apply the change.

Step 5 - Restart the computer

Sounds silly, but some users report that that helped.

Step 6 - Contact us

If it still doesn’t work contact us via a support.

Pinegrow does not start or freezes on start

Pinegrow Desktop 10 keeps your settings, recovery data and revisions in the Pinegrow Data folder, outside the Chromium profile that Pinegrow runs on, and keeps API keys and other credentials in your system's secure credential storage. Earlier versions kept settings and snapshots in that profile, so clearing the profile also removed them.

  1. Reset the UI state. If Pinegrow starts but its windows, panels or notices don't behave, open Support & Settings › Settings…, go to the Pinegrow Data section and click Reset UI state…. Pinegrow resets the window, panel and notice state and restarts. Projects, settings, recent files, snapshots, credentials and AI Assistant data are kept.
  2. Check the Pinegrow Data messages. If Pinegrow shows Pinegrow Data is unavailable or Pinegrow Data migration needs attention when it starts, follow Troubleshooting Pinegrow Data. Don't remove the Chromium profile until a move of your data has completed.
  3. Contact us. If Pinegrow still doesn't start or freezes on start, contact us.

Why can’t I select an iframe from the page view in Pinegrow after adding it?

Due to the way iframes capture mouse events, they can interfere with Pinegrow’s ability to handle these interactions directly within the page view. As a result, while you can see and select the iframe from the Tree View, it may not be selectable directly from the page view.

This limitation applies whether the iframe is added using the Insert Code feature, is part of a third-party template or library or added through code.

Workaround: To manage iframes effectively in Pinegrow, use the Tree View for selection and manipulation. This ensures you can still access and edit the iframe without any issues.
